Private company SLI, s.r.o., that was established in 1st January 2013, has a personal and professional assumptions and ambitions to continue in some of the activities of the former Slovak Air Force Institute of Research and Testing and its successional institutions.

The Ministry of Defence of the Slovak Republic acting on the behalf of the Slovak Republic as the only stockholder in the Slovak Aeronautical Institute JSC based in Rampová 7, 040 01 Košice, company registration number 36 658 626 in accordance with Commercial Code (č. 513/1991 Zb.) decided to disestablish the commercial company Slovak Aeronautical Institute JSC and to integrate it into the Letecké opravovne Trenčín, a.s. based in Legionárska 160, 911 04 Trenčín, Commercial Code 36 351 156. The Letecké opravovne Trenčín, a.s. become a successional organization. Slovak Aeronautical Institute JSC subsequently became the SLI department of this organization. The SLI as department of Letecké opravovne Trenčín, a.s. was abolished on the date 31st January 2014.

Based on the Decision of the Ministry of Defence of the Slovak Republic the state contributory organization Slovak Air Force Institute of Research and Testing was abolished on the date 31st July 2006 and on 1st August 2006 was established the joint stock company Slovak Aeronautical Institute JSC by inserting investment in kind of all property of the state contributory organization Slovak Air Force Institute of Research and Testing. The domicile and initial commercial relations and employment contracts remained in force. The Slovak Aeronautical Institute JSC was registered in County court Košice I, section Sa, insertion number 1391/V.

The development of the Slovak Air Force began after the constitution of the independent Slovak Republic and its Armed Forces. In order to sustain the service availability and dependability of the Slovak Air Force and the assurance of the challenging tasks concerning modernization and technological development of the aviation equipment and armament as well as with aim to provide the equipment and armament for the Slovak Air Force the Slovak Air Force Institute of Research and Testing (SAFIRT) was established by the Decree of the Minister of Defence on the date 1st November 1994.

In the 1997 the SAFIRT became an independent budgetary part of the Ministry of Defence of the Slovak Republic and since 1st January 2004 SAFIRT changed its form of economic management from budgetary organization to contribution organization.
